Info for 5th Grade Parents

Assignments & Grading

Classwork and homework should be completed and turned in each week.  They affect student grades.  If a child is absent from school, it's the child's responsibility to make up any work missed.  Assignments not completed should be completed at home or at study hall.  Weekly progress reports and our assignment board will help students keep track of missing assignments.  Students

Behavior Sheets

Fifth graders should record their behavior at the end of each day.  These are available to parents on a daily basis if students remember to take them back and forth between home and school. On Fridays students are asked to take these home for parents to see and get a signature.  If they bring them back on Monday morning signed, they earn something from the class treasure chest.

In our class we use a card system for discipline. The goal for each student is to stay on green.

Green - Doing Great!
Yellow - Warning: stop and think
Orange - Loss of privilege
Blue - Parent Contact
Red - Office visit   â€‹

Progress Reports

Progress reports are sent out from the office mid-quarter, however, you can expect your child to take one home on most Fridays.  My goal is to send them out every Friday, however when things come up there will be weeks where I'm unable to get these printed for students. These progress reports will allow you to better track your child's progress.  As with the behavior sheets, if they bring them back on Monday morning with a parent signature, they earn something from the class treasure chest.

Books for Home

Fifth graders have library time on Wednesdays.  They will be able to check out books from our school library each week at that time.  They also have the option of checking out books from our class library at any time.  Please encourage your child to take care of these books and return them in a timely manner.

Incentives

Good behavior, hard work, and citizenship is rewarded in our classroom.  Students earn gold cards for outstanding acts of kindness or good work, which are turned into the office for a weekly class drawing (awarded by Mr. Bahnsen).  Students in class who do well, work hard, and remember to turn in signed progress reports and behavior sheets will select a treat from our treasure chest.  Also, students with ten consecutive green cards will be eligible to select an item from our special treasure chest!

Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast is served every morning beginning at 8:00am.  Lunch is served for elementary students at 11:45am.   A monthly breakfast and lunch menu will be given to students at the beginning of each month.  Meals are free for all students.
